Concern and Outrage
A planned Israeli operation in Rafah has drawn widespread concern and outrage from around the world.
Why the concern? Because over a million displaced Palestinians are sheltering in Rafah and they don’t really have anywhere left to go.
Why the outrage? Because Rafah has been designated as a safe zone and now Israel is threatening to carry out a ground operation there.
The world is right to be concerned. Civilians in Gaza have already paid too high a price for this war and Israel shouldn’t move forward unless it has figured out how to protect the innocents in Rafah, even if this means taking extraordinary measures.
The world is right to be outraged too, but the outrage is directed at the wrong target.
